Our special guest will be photographer, Russel Albert Daniels: https://www.russeldaniels.com/
The first 45 minutes of our gathering, Daniels will discuss his photographic work, and especially the topic of preserving cultural heritage through photography. Daniels identifies a complex personal heritage that intersects with Dine, Ho-Chunk, and Mormon pioneer ancestry and this plays out significantly in his work.
In the second 45 minutes, Daniels will critique participants' photos - with our input in the discussion. He's requested participants submit up to five photos on the theme of man at the edge of wilderness. This is a consistent theme in his own work. This could be a human interacting with nature, or a man-made element in nature, or nature being preserved/showcased in the middle of a man-made environment (photos don't need to have actual humans in them).
I'll contact participants a week before the event so that they may submit their photos. (And as always, all are welcome to this gathering whether submitting photos or not. It is NOT a requirement to submit photos - but it is a lot of fun to have our photos discussed by an award-winning photographer!)
