Inspired by beautiful Japanese swords at the UMFA, learn the art of Kumihimo! Use a small loom and yarn to create your own intricate Japanese-style braid.

The UMFA has two beautiful Japanese swords on display. The masterful artistry of the sword makers is evident in the metalwork, but the swords also have intricate silk braids on the handle and scabbard. The art of braiding these ties is called Kumihimo. Inspired by these swords, we will practice Kumihimo and make our own braids using a small loom and yarn.
