Writing is difficult. Publishing is difficult. Local author Steve Capone, Jr. will discuss one way it has worked and some guidelines to help us maintain our sanity; our happiness; and reach our goals.

The road to publishing is not a straight one, nor is it smooth. Oh, and there's no road. Rather, the path you're on is more of a rough-hewn trail that requires orienteering and bushwhacking, and goblins are leaping from the hidden crannies of the mountainside (also, you're climbing a mountain) yelling at you to stop what you're doing, to play some video games or get that spring cleaning done or connect with your loved ones... and also there's no peak, really, but a series of them.

Okay, let's drop the metaphor. Writing is difficult. Publishing is difficult. Whether you're a writer working for yourself or are hoping to publish a novel, Steve Capone, Jr. will help you understand one way it has worked and suggest some guidelines for writers. To help us maintain our sanity; our happiness; to reach our goals. Join the conversation at the Whitmore Library on June 29th 2024 at 3pm.

An award-winning and Utah-based writer hailing from the Rust Belt, Steve Capone Jr debuted his YA historical/espionage fiction novel Max in the Capital of Spies: A Max Fredericks Story in March 2024 following a successful Kickstarter campaign. In 2026, Gibbs Smith’s True Fiction Press will distribute Capone’s next YA historical fiction novel, Jimmy vs. Communism, nationwide. You can find his short fiction anthologies such as We Are Dangerous (2023, LUW Press), Write Where You Are (forthcoming, LUW Press), Darkness 102 (forthcoming, Collective Tales Publishing), and This Isn’t the Place (forthcoming, Timber Ghost Press). Steve is the founder and owner/operator of horror publisher Whisper House Press, and is currently editing that house's inaugural anthology, Costs of Living. He's a long-time teacher and researcher, staunch pizza advocate, weepy dog rescuer, and proud member of the League of Utah Writers and the Horror Writers Association.
