We’re counting down to July 16, the anniversary of Apollo 11’s historic launch from Cape Kennedy on July 16, 1969 at 9:32 am EDT. Build and launch rockets with us and Clark Planetarium.
West Jordan Branch and Clark Planetarium are excited to partner with the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Ala., on a Global Rocket Launch to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission to the moon. On July 16, 2019, we join with organizations and individuals from around the world to launch model rockets in honor of the mission in which Commander Neil Armstrong took his “one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” Register your stage 1 rockets now or that day or just come and enjoy the show.
Notes: Any model rocket over Stage 1 with A or B engines will not be allowed to launch during our Global Rocket Launch event. Rocket launches will depend upon wind conditions and may be cancelled if wind speeds are too high.
The U.S. Space & Rocket Center, the Official Visitor Center of NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center and home to Space Camp®, set the date of the Global Rocket Launch to coincide with the date the Huntsville-developed Saturn V moon rocket launched from Cape Canaveral carrying Commander Armstrong, Command Module Pilot Michael Collins and Lunar Module Pilot Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin to the moon. The Apollo 11 mission brought the world closer together in a moment of celebration for mankind’s monumental achievement, and the Rocket Center is partnering with groups from around the world to bring that sense of unity and accomplishment forward with the Global Rocket Launch.
For the Global Rocket Launch, participants are encouraged to share photos and videos of their experience with the world by including #GlobalRocketLaunch on Twitter, Instagram and YouTube.
You may also bring your own rocket to launch—for safety reasons, some launching restrictions may apply. You may also bring your own stage 1 with A or B engines only to launch.
