Evelyn Cisneros-Legate will talk about how incorporated her background and understanding of culture into her professional business career.
Evelyn Cisneros-Legate, granddaughter of immigrants from Mexico during the Mexican Revolution, went from being a young girl too shy to talk in school to becoming the first Mexican-American prima ballerina with The San Francisco Ballet. Today, as Director of the Fredrick Quinney Lawson Ballet West Academy and recent honoree as a Utah Business Women of the Year, she is ensuring ballet continues into future generations. Cisneros-Legate will talk about how she overcame racial discrimination as the only person of color at the time dancing with The San Francisco Ballet and how she incorporated her background and understanding of culture into her professional business career.
Ballet West Academy Director Evelyn Cisneros-Legate was Prima-Ballerina of The San Francisco Ballet for many years beginning under Lew Christensen (brother of Ballet West founder Willam Christensen) and continuing under its current Artistic Director Helgi Tomasson. Ms. Cisneros-Legate holds an honorary doctorate from both Mills College and the University of California at Monterey Bay. Considered one of America's leading ballerinas and the first Mexican-American principal ballerina, Ms. Cisneros-Legate is a renowned dance educator, former Principal at Boston Ballet School, and recent honoree as Utah Business Woman of the Year.
